A new program promoting financial literacy will be held at the Chattooga Library in October. This program focuses on financial savings, investments, and retirement best practices. This program is a partnership with the University of West Georgia Center for Economic Education and Financial Literacy and made possible by a grant from the FINRA Investor Education Foundation. North Summerville Baptist Church will be hosting a BBQ fundraiser for Cancer Navigators. Cancer Navigators helps cancer patients with gas, back and forth for treatments, help with the purchase of wigs, with counseling and so much more. This year it is being done in memory of Mrs. Shirley Forbes. It will be Saturday September 30th from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the church 119 Maplewood Drive Summerville, Georgia. TMMA Farms in Trion will be celebrating Alpaca Farm Days coming up this Saturday, September 30th and Sunday, October 1st.
The Chattooga County Young Farmers will host a harvest decoration class coming up on Tuesday, October 17th. The decoration class will feature instruction on how to create a harvest succulent pumpkin. The cost for the class is $30 for the public or $20 for young farmer members and will be held at the Chattooga County Ag Center on Middle School Drive in Summerville. Pre-registration is required. The descendants of John Wesley and Nancy Bowman Smith will gather at Menlo Park on Sunday September 24th at noon. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish to share.
