
A local chapter of Moms for Liberty has been established in Chattooga County.

Hugh “Sonny” Carter Jr., who helped organize the “Peanut Brigade” that helped elect his cousin Jimmy to the White House and later enforced the president’s frugal ways in the West Wing, has died. He was 80.

Summerville Police were called to a local business this week due to damage to a fence. According to a report from the Summerville Police Department, Paul Marks with Marks Auto Sales said that someone had done about $200 worth of damage to a fence between the car lot and Bryant & Sons Lumber Company on Commerce Street. Marks said that he wasn’t able to provide any possible suspects for police.

Unemployment was up in the Northwest Georgia area, according to numbers released Thursday by the Georgia Department of Labor.

The Chattooga County Chamber will be hosting a small business showcase coming up in September. The event is open to all locally-owned retailers and restaurants. Business owners will be able to showcase their business for FREE. There is limited space available. The chamber will provide tables, chairs, table covering and signage for the event. They encourage coupons for tracking visitors and repeat business. Also, there will be a cash prize and marketing for the best business booth winner. The business doesn’t have to be a chamber member to participate in the LoveLocal Showcase. Deadline to register is September 25, 2023.

It is the first day of school for students in the Chattooga County School System, and with the new year, Menlo students are starting off in a brand-new school building. Menlo Principal Paula Buice says that Menlo Elementary School is excited about the new facility and that they are looking forward to a great 2023-2024 school year. Motorists are reminded that with school back in session, everyone needs to be mindful of school zones and obey the posted speed limit. While Chattooga students are finished with their summer break as of today, Trion City School students have a few more days before school starts. Trion Schools will start on Thursday, August 3rd. WZQZ hopes that everyone has a great 2023-2024 school year.

The Chattooga Young Farmers will hold their August meeting on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at the Chattooga County Agricultural Center located on Middle School Road in Summerville.
