Naked Man At House In Trion

A fifty-four-year-old naked man was found on Rose Circle in Trion in the early morning hours of Saturday.  Jeffery Hines, who has a long history of arrests in Chattooga County, was detained after he tried to get inside a house around 3 AM.  According to the sheriff’s office report, the homeowner has a restraining order against Hines for aggravated stalking. Hines was transported by EMS for evaluation, and charges may be pending, according to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office. It isn’t the first time that Hines has been found without clothes on. Hines was arrested at the “Shell in the Hole” in Trion in 2021 after an off-duty law enforcement officer spotted him “running around the area with no pants on”, according to reports at the time.

Chattooga County Tax Office Schedule For July 3-7

Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton has announced different office hours for the week of July 3-7.  The tax commissioner says that since the office will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th for Independence Day, they will open up on Wednesday, July 5th.  Also, next week only, office hours will be from 8 AM until 5 PM, instead of the normal hours of 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM.  Tax Commissioner Hampton says that she is amending the hours next week so that employees can complete online training after the office closes at 5 PM.  Normal hours of operation will return starting Monday, July 10th.  See schedule below:

Two Arrested For Meth Possession After Traffic Stop

A forty-seven-year-old woman and a fifty-nine-year-old man were arrested late last week after a traffic stop in Summerville.  Summerville Police say that they stopped the vehicle because the driver was not maintaining a single lane.  While speaking with the driver, identified as Scott Blake Johnson, officer noticed that both he and his passenger were acting very nervous.  After receiving consent to search the vehicle, officers found suspected methamphetamine.  Neither Johnson, nor the passenger – Pamela Marie Fore – would take responsibility for the drugs.  They were both charged with possession of methamphetamine.  Johnson was also charged for failure to maintain a single lane and operation of an improperly equipped vehicle.

Summit Hill Foods In Rome Is For Sale

The Rome News Tribune reported on Tuesday that Summit Hill Foods, formerly Southeastern Mills, is for sale.  Company owners told employees last week about the decision. The company has acquired other food service companies over the past several years and in 2015 they purchased The Original Louisiana Brand Hot Sauce from Bruce Foods Corp. as well as the company’s campus in New Iberia, Louisiana.  The company was founded in 1941.

Shooting In Rome Tuesday

A Rome man was jailed early Tuesday following a shooting on Wadsworth Street near Nelm Street. According to Floyd County Jail records: twenty-six-year-old Brandon Timothy Stubbs Jr. shot at another man just after midnight with an AR-15. Stubbs said he shot because he thought he saw a weapon on the victim from about 30 feet away on the street. The victim sustained a serious bodily injury requiring hospitalization. Stubbs is charged with a felony count of aggravated assault.

New Georgia Laws Take Affect On Saturday

Several new laws will go into place in Georgia on Saturday, July 1st when Georgia’s new, $32.4 billion dollar budget goes into effect. Part of the budget includes a $2,000 pay raise for state employees and public school teachers. The budget also includes a $6,000 raise for state troopers and some other law enforcement officers.
