Feds Release Money To Help States Improve Unemployment

To help states build systems to prevent and detect future fraud more effectively, the U.S. Department of Labor today announced the availability of up to $200 million in grants funded by the American Rescue Plan Act. This funding availability announcement is part of the broader historic investment of $2 billion in ARPA funding, $1.6 billion of which will have been made available to states by summer 2023.

Summerville Man Charged With Meth Distribution In Rome

A forty-five-year-old Summerville man was being held in the Floyd County Jail on drug charges stemming from an arrest that happened almost a year ago.  According to Floyd County Jail records, Floyd County Police have charged Jacob Freund Barnes with possession of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell – both felonies.  He has also been charged with a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge.  Floyd County Police arrested Barnes on May 27, 2022 at a gas station on Martha Berry Boulevard in Rome and say that he had over 4 grams of methamphetamine in his possession at the time of the arrest.  Barnes was arrested on warrants this week and was being held in the Floyd County Jail on $10,100 bond.

The Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency has been made aware by reports from citizens of an area of Spring Creek, north of Gaylesville (County Rd 41/87/114 area), having a fluorescent green color.

Chattooga County Getting Funds From Infrastructure Bill

Chattooga County has a number of bridges that are listed as “structurally deficient” by the Georgia Department of Transportation.  There are 114 bridges in the county and of those, there are 23 in need of repair or corrective action.  One bridge, over Selman Creek near the Gore Fire Hall, has been closed.
