The sentencing took place at the Walker County Courthouse just weeks after a jury found McCrary guilty of felony murder. He received an additional five years to run consecutively with the life sentence. The fatal shooting occurred on March 22, 2022, in the parking lot of a Dollar General store in Chickamauga. Heat Advisory And Threat Of Thunderstorms For Thursday

Northwest Georgia is set to endure another sweltering summer day, with the National Weather Service issuing a Heat Advisory urging residents to take precautions. The combination of high temperatures and humidity will push heat index values between a dangerous 99 and 105 degrees this afternoon. Adding to the concerns, forecasters are predicting a chance of thunderstorms throughout the day. This morning, isolated storms may bring brief periods of heavy rainfall and dangerous lightning, particularly across northwest Georgia. “With these heat index values, it’s crucial to prioritize safety,” stated a spokesperson for the National Weather Service. “We strongly advise vulnerable populations, including the elderly, young children, and pets, to take extra precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.” Residents are urged to stay hydrated, seek shade during peak hours, and limit strenuous outdoor activities. The threat of storms continues into the afternoon and evening, with scattered thunderstorms expected. The primary concern during this period will be the potential for damaging downburst wind gusts, which could reach speeds between 40 and 60 mph. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects and stay informed of weather updates.
