Summerville Called Meeting This Evening

The Summerville City Council will hold a called meeting coming up this evening at Summerville City Hall on Georgia Avenue, across from Summerville First Baptist Church.  The council is expected to approve a payment to Templeton & Associates for a valve for the water department and approve Mayor Harry Harvey to enter into an agreement with the county government and other municipalities in Chattooga County to call for a vote on the Special Local Option Sales tax in March.  This evening’s meeting gets underway at 5:30 PM and is open to the public.  You can see an agenda for this evening’s meeting below:

Local Leaders Discuss SPLOST Distribution

Last week, Commissioner Andy Allen convened with the mayors of Summerville, Lyerly, Trion, and Menlo at the commissioner’s office to discuss the distribution of future funds from an upcoming sales tax referendum. The meeting comes as Commissioner Allen faces an urgent deadline to prepare for a crucial election scheduled for March 18, 2024, which could secure millions in funding for the county and its municipalities.

Chattooga County Schools Cancelled For Tuesday

After receiving updated information from Georgia Emergency Management and Local Emergency Management officials this evening, Chattooga County Schools has made the decision to have a Learn From Home Day on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. The potential for the weather pattern to shift north, partnered with freezing temperatures, creates a potentially unsafe travel situation as the day progresses.
Chattooga County Schools does not take these decisions lightly and is aware of the inconvenience this may cause families, but student safety is at the core of every decision we make. Chattooga County Schools, in partnership with Emergency Management Agency officials, will continue to monitor the weather on Tuesday prior to making any decisions related to Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
