Convicted Felon Arrested in Rome for Illegal Firearm Purchase

A Summerville man with a prior felony conviction has been arrested in Rome, facing charges of illegally possessing a firearm after reportedly purchasing a handgun earlier this year.

Marcus Dupree Stamper, 32, was taken into custody following an investigation into reports that he had acquired a Taurus handgun. Authorities allege Stamper paid $200 for the weapon from an individual on Randall Road back in May.

As a convicted felon, Georgia law strictly prohibits individuals with prior felony convictions from owning or possessing firearms. Stamper now faces a charge of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Details regarding his bond and upcoming court appearances were not immediately available.
