An 88-year-old man tragically died in a residential structure fire Wednesday at his home on 99 Byrds Chapel Road, according to officials. Fire crews from multiple agencies, including New Salem, South Dade Fire, Dade County Station 1, and McLemore Fire, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters found the residence fully engulfed in flames. The home was ultimately declared a total loss due to the extensive damage. Firefighters extricated the victim from the burning structure, but he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the deceased was not immediately released, pending notice to the family. The cause of the fatal blaze remains under investigation by authorities. No additional details were immediately available.
