Join the Friends of Sloppy Floyd, Santa, the Grinch, and Mrs. Cardinal for the Peppermint Project, an event featuring The Woodland Elves of the Peppermint Cave, this Saturday, December 14th from 4 – 7 PM at Picnic Shelter #2. The local libraries have a limited number of park passes that can be checked out at no cost.

Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney Clayton M. Fuller has returned from a six-month military deployment with the United States Air Force and resumed his role as District Attorney of the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit. His deployment lasted from May 3, 2024, to October 30, 2024, as a legal advisor to military operations in the Middle East, supporting the United States Central Command at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar and Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina. Chief Assistant District Attorney Kevin Baugh served as Acting District Attorney during Fuller’s absence. Fuller, a fourteen-year Air Force veteran promoted to lieutenant colonel during his service, received the Meritorious Service Medal and the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal.
Calhoun Police, in conjunction with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, executed a search warrant on Friday at a business suspected of involvement in human trafficking activities.
A Menlo man with a long history of arrests and charges in both Chattooga and Floyd Counties has been indicted once again by the Chattooga County Grand Jury. Christopher Chase Deberry of a Highway 337, Menlo address was indicted recently by the grand jury on charges of selling methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute. In October of last year, Deberry was indicted on charges of simple battery under the Family Violence Act, crossing guard lines with drugs and inflicting pain or depriving services to an elderly or disabled person. Deberry has been arrested multiple times on drug charges as well as charges of aggravated stalking and intimidation.
Georgia gas prices remain steady at the pumps compared to a week ago. Georgians pay an average of $2.90 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight). Monday’s state average was the same as a week ago, at 4 cents less than a month ago and 15 cents less than this time last year. It costs drivers an average price of $43.50 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline.
A shocking tragedy unfolded in Mentone on Friday evening when the DeKalb County 911 center received an emergency call from a resident reported a shooting at his home. According to law enforcement sources, the caller, a male individual, requested immediate assistance from law enforcement, prompting dispatchers to coordinate a rapid response while maintaining communication with him. During the call, the man revealed the devastating news that he had shot his wife and their dogs, expressing intentions to take his own life shortly thereafter.
A Rome police officer was involved in a deadly car accident on Redmond Circle at the Gala Shopping Center on Monday morning while responding to a bomb threat at U. S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s home. An email received by the Rome Police Department claimed a pipe bomb was placed in Greene’s mailbox, threatening detonation if it was opened.
