Former Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has released his first children’s book and he will be in Rome today to promote it.
Once again this year, the Chattooga County Farm Bureau is sponsoring the demonstration kitchen at the fair. Today is the opening day of the fair and the demonstration area will feature Gwen Fisher from Lyerly. Ms. Fisher will show how to create a soothing salve to cool down the burn and itch of fire ant stings using a plant commonly found in our area. The demonstration area is free with your paid gate admission of $5 to the fair.
A network of current and former Georgia inmates used drones to smuggle drugs and other contraband into state prisons, federal prosecutors said Wednesday in announcing charges against nearly two dozen people.
The Trion Town Council will hold their regular workshop and council meeting for August coming up tonight at 6 PM. The meeting will start with the workshop and the regular meeting will follow shortly thereafter. The public is invited to attend both the workshop and council meeting which will be held in the Trion Town Hall Council Room. Also, a reminder, Trion Public Works Department will go back to their regular schedule starting on Monday of next week. The public works department has been on earlier, summer hours due to the heat. U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA), is continuing his quest to force the U.S. Postal Service to answer for continued problems with mail delivery in Georgia.
Be a hero by choosing not to drive after drinking because Georgia law enforcement officers are taking all drunk and drugged drivers they find on the road to jail. Those who choose to pass the keys to a sober designated driver or arrange a ride with a cab or ride-share are saving lives by making the right decision not to risk their lives and the lives of others by operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs or both substances.

Summerville Police were called to the Gyro Car Wash on Highland Avenue in reference to a theft and damage to property. Officers observed that the vacuum cleaners had all been damaged and the change machine had been damaged and burglarized. A worker said that $50 worth of change from a machine in one of the car wash stalls had been stolen. Also there were padlocks that had been cut off. The incident was reported on August 15th.
The Chattooga County M.L.K Commission Committee is inviting the community out to a “FUN DAY” that will be held at the Lyerly Ball Field on Monday, September 2, 2024. The event will get underway at noon. Bring lawn chairs and tents and everyone is invited to attend.
