The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a child being bitten by a dog at Maplewood Apartment in Summerville on Wednesday of this week.  According to the sheriff’s office, a group of children were playing with the dog and when one of the children reached down to pick up a ball they were playing with, the dog bit the nine-year-old child in the stomach.  The child was transported to the Atrium Health Emergency Department in Trion.  The responding deputy went to the Emergency Department and confirmed the child’s injuries.  The owner of the three-legged dog, identified as Melvin Bailey was visibly distressed about the incident, according to the deputy, and said the dog had never been aggressive before.  Chattooga Animal Control arrived and took the dog from the scene.
