A Centre, Alabama man was arrested in Rome earlier this week after allegedly leading local law enforcement on a high-speed pursuit that began over a minor traffic infraction.
Travis Dakota Black, 31, of Centre, was apprehended and now faces multiple charges, including reckless driving and attempting to elude police.
According to police reports, officers initially attempted to stop Black’s vehicle on Woods Road. The reason for the attempted stop was that Black was reportedly driving with no taillight. Instead of complying with the officers’ directive, Black allegedly accelerated, turning onto GA 20, and driving at a high rate of speed in an apparent attempt to avoid a citation.
During the ensuing chase, officers reported that Black exhibited extremely dangerous driving behavior. He was observed weaving in and out of lanes at high speeds, demonstrating a clear disregard for the safety of other motorists on the road.
Following his apprehension in Rome, Black was formally charged with reckless driving, speeding, no tag light, failure to maintain lane, and attempting to elude police.
