Chattooga County residents are encouraged to attend a public meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 10AM, at the Commissioner’s office in Summerville. Sole Commissioner Andy Allen will discuss two important tax initiatives that could change county finances and services. The meeting’s main agenda includes the potential approval of agreements and a call for elections on the Floating Local Option Sales Tax (FLOST) and the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST). If approved, these measures will be presented to Chattooga County voters for a final decision.
The FLOST proposal aims to reduce property taxes for the county starting in 2027, providing relief to homeowners. The TSPLOST seeks to generate funds specifically for long-term transportation projects in the county. Both taxes are intended to support essential county services and infrastructure without relying solely on property taxes.
Phil Sutton from Rochester | DCCM will present a detailed overview of the FLOST and TSPLOST measures, covering their financial impacts and uses of the funds. After his presentation, the public will have an opportunity to share opinions and ask questions about the proposed taxes. DCCM (Design, Consulting, and Construction Management, Inc.) is a provider of professional services focused on infrastructure development, offering expertise in design, consulting, and construction management. They serve both public and private sectors, with a focus on areas like infrastructure development, innovative design, and strategic consulting
The meeting agenda includes the approval of intergovernmental agreements and election calls for both FLOST and TSPLOST, which are necessary steps to place these tax referendums on an upcoming ballot for voters to decide. Commissioner Allen emphasizes the importance of public involvement in this process.
