Students across the Chattooga County School District returned to classrooms today, marking the official start of the 2025-2026 academic year. The new school year opened with an optimistic message from Superintendent Michelle Helie, Ed.D., emphasizing the district’s commitment to community, excellence, and student success.
In her welcome address, Dr. Helie expressed immense pride and excitement for the new year. “As your superintendent, I am honored to lead a district known for its strong sense of community, rich traditions, and commitment to excellence,” she stated. She reaffirmed the district’s core mission: “to provide a high-quality education in a supportive environment—one that inspires academic success and fosters student engagement through the fine arts, CTAE programs, athletics, and community involvement.”
Dr. Helie extended a special welcome to all members of the Chattooga County school family. “To our returning students and families—welcome back! Your continued trust and support are the foundation of our success,” she said. For those new to the district, she added, “And to those who are new to Chattooga, we’re thrilled to have you join us. You are now part of a community that believes in the power of connection, growth, and opportunity.”
The Superintendent also took a moment to acknowledge the dedication of the district’s educators and staff. “To our dedicated faculty and staff, thank you. Your passion and tireless work shape the future of our students every day,” Dr. Helie remarked. “I am eager to continue our work together, building meaningful and engaging learning experiences for all.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming year, Dr. Helie encouraged a collective approach rooted in positive values. “As we begin this new chapter, let us approach the year with optimism, determination, and a shared commitment to excellence,” she urged. Her vision for the district includes fostering “a school culture founded on respect, inclusion, and high expectations—a culture where every student feels seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.”
