Once again this year, the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair is set to host one of its most anticipated events: the annual Youth Poultry Show and Auction. This popular tradition highlights months of dedication and hard work from local 4-H and FFA students, culminating in an evening that celebrates agricultural education and provides a significant reward for young participants.

The journey for participating students began months ago, with each receiving eight three-day-old baby chicks. These young agriculturalists have meticulously cared for their birds, fostering responsibility, animal husbandry skills, and a deeper understanding of poultry science – all part of the annual poultry project.

Students will bring their top three birds to the fair for judging on Saturday, August 25th, beginning at 6 PM. Following the judging, a lively auction will commence, where a professional auctioneer will help students secure top dollar for their quality birds. Every penny earned from the sale of their birds goes directly back to the students, providing valuable financial reward for their hard work and investment. Additionally, all youth poultry auction sales are eligible as a tax-deductible donation, offering a chance for community members and businesses to support youth agricultural endeavors.

To ensure students are fully prepared for the big day, a final meeting for all participating in the annual poultry project is scheduled for August 15th at 6 PM at the Chattooga County Extension Office.

The community is invited to witness the culmination of these young agriculturalists’ dedication at the Poultry Show and Auction, held at the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair on Saturday, August 25th, starting at 6 PM. It’s an excellent opportunity to support Chattooga County’s youth, invest in productive backyard poultry, and enjoy a vibrant part of the local fair.
