The Chattooga County Democratic Party is gearing up for a busy month, announcing two public events in July aimed at community engagement and political discussion, including a peaceful protest honoring civil rights legend John Lewis and a meeting featuring State Senate candidate Jack Zibluk. Party officials are encouraging “like-minded friends” and interested residents to participate in both upcoming gatherings.
The first event, a peaceful protest, is scheduled for Thursday, July 17, from 6:30 PM to 8 PM, in front of the Chattooga County Courthouse. This demonstration will honor John Lewis Community Service Day, recognizing the legacy of Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, who was a legendary civil rights leader and prominent U.S. Congressman.
Cynthia Hubler, Chair of the Chattooga County Democratic Party, underscored the importance of the protest. “Standing up for our democracy is critical at this point in our history,” Hubler stated. “We may be a minority in our county, but every time we take a stand, it encourages others to speak up as well.”
Following the protest, the Chattooga County Democrats will hold their next official meeting on Monday, July 21, at 6 PM, at the Chattooga County Senior Center (also known as Chattooga Nutrition). The Senior Center is located at 184 Senior Drive in Summerville.
“It’s been a while since we last met,” Hubler noted, inviting members and prospective attendees to mark their calendars. The meeting will begin with a “round up of our latest news and activities.”
The featured speaker for the July 21st meeting will be Jack Zibluk, who is running for State Senate from the district, challenging the current occupant, State Senator Colton Moore. Zibluk is expected to share his vision for the district and answer questions from attendees regarding his campaign and motivations.
“Jack will be a great advocate for Chattooga and has the background to make a difference for us in the State Legislature,” Hubler stated in announcing the meeting, highlighting Zibluk’s potential impact.
Both events are open to the public, and the Chattooga County Democratic Party encourages all interested citizens to attend and engage in local political discourse and community action.
