A  correctional officer was arrested on charges of bringing contraband into Hays State Prison.  The Georgia Department of Corrections launched an investigation into illegal activity by the employee, who was arrested on Thursday of this week. According to Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader, the suspect was employed at Hays State Prison in Trion.  Michael James Ward has been charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute.  Additionally, he was charged with violation of oath by a public officer and crossing guard lines with drugs. Ward was arrested by the Georgia Department of Corrections on Thursday at 5:17 PM, according to arrest reports.
