The Rome News Tribune reported on Sunday that the former Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital site, now known as the Battey Business Complex, is set to undergo a significant transformation in the coming year as demolition efforts ramp up.
Once a sprawling healthcare facility, the property has sat largely dormant for years, its aging buildings and infrastructure falling further into disrepair. But that is all about to change, as local officials and developers have set their sights on revitalizing the area and breathing new life into the neglected campus. The sprawling former state hospital, which has stood vacant for several years, will soon give way to the new Battey Business Complex, a vibrant mixed-use development poised to breathe new life into the area.
The proposed land acquisition by VT Industries represents an exciting opportunity for the region’s industrial landscape. The property’s heavy industrial zoning makes it an ideal fit for the company’s expansion plans, allowing them to capitalize on the existing infrastructure and operational efficiencies. With 21 acres and an existing building on the site, VT Industries will have ample room to grow its architectural wood products business, which includes a diverse range of doors and counter tops.
This strategic purchase, valued at $1.6 million, comes on the heels of the company’s recent 40,000-square-foot expansion at its West Rome facility – a clear indication of its commitment to the area and confidence in the local market. Missy Kendrick, president of the Rome-Floyd County Development Authority, has expressed optimism that the deal will be finalized by the end of the year.
