Preparations are ongoing for the transformation of the former Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital property into an industrial park by the Rome-Floyd County Development Authority, which acquired the 132-acre site from the state of Georgia. The complex, previously serving as a mental hospital, tuberculosis hospital, and military hospital, is the subject of an upcoming documentary titled “Echoes of Hope”. “Named after the annual “Trees of Hope” Christmas tradition, the documentary aims to preserve the impact of the hospital on the community. The site will be renamed the Battey Business Complex to honor its history, ensuring that its memory remains even as some buildings are demolished. The site, classified as a Brownfield site by the EPA, presents environmental challenges such as asbestos and lead paint, necessitating remediation efforts using federal grant funds.

Despite demolition plans, certain structures like the chapel, pavilions, and “the gym” will be retained. The gym will be repurposed into a daycare center to provide a valuable amenity for incoming industries and their employees. Demolition is projected to commence in early 2025, with industries already showing interest in the site’s development.
