Dr. George Bosworth is retiring from his position on the board of Floyd Healthcare Management Inc. (FHMI) and has been named FHMI Chair Emeritus. He began his pediatrics practice at Harbin Clinic in 1989 and became a cherished member of the local community, recording over 50,000 patient visits. He joined the FHMI board in 2001 and served as chair from 2012 to 2021.

Dr. Bosworth’s family has a long history in healthcare in northwest Georgia, starting with his father, Dr. Edward Bosworth, who helped establish Harbin Clinic in 1948. During Dr. Bosworth’s tenure, Floyd became a leader in rural healthcare initiatives, investing millions to improve access for patients. Key projects included a management agreement with Polk Medical Center, the development of new facilities, and the establishment of EMS services.

Kay Chumbler, former FHMI vice chair, praised Dr. Bosworth’s leadership, noting his commitment to the community’s best interests and his thoughtful approach to decision-making. Under his guidance, significant improvements were made, including a $19 million renovation of Floyd Medical Center and a partnership with Atrium Health that ensured the hospital’s sustainability.

His leadership also addressed challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic and facilitated the development of trauma care services, achieving Level II Trauma Center designation. Dr. Bosworth’s impact on the community and dedication to healthcare will be remembered fondly.
