Chris McDaniel, a former member of the award-winning 1990s country music group Confederate Railroad, will be the featured speaker at Oak Hill Methodist Church’s Annual Homecoming on Sunday, August 3, 2025. McDaniel will share his powerful personal testimony during the worship service, which begins at 10:30 AM.
Oak Hill Methodist Church, located at 3860 Oak Hill Road in Lyerly, Chattooga County, welcomes the community to this special event. Following the worship service, attendees are invited to a traditional covered dish lunch, providing an opportunity for fellowship and community connection. Pastor David Humphrey and the entire congregation extend a heartfelt invitation to everyone to attend and “receive a blessing.”
Chris McDaniel spent 16 years as a part of Confederate Railroad, an acclaimed band that achieved multi-platinum success in the country music scene. However, despite outward achievements, McDaniel candidly shares how the pressures and challenges of life in the music business led him to a personal low point, where he felt “completely lost.” After hitting what he describes as “rock bottom,” he sought help, eventually entering rehab where he accepted the need for a Higher Power to guide him.
His turning point came after rehab, at Bayside Baptist Church in Harrison, TN, where a message on Jeremiah 29:11-13 resonated deeply. Convicted by the Word of God, McDaniel surrendered his life to Christ at the altar, marking a profound transformation.
Since that pivotal moment, McDaniel has dedicated his life to sharing his faith and experience. Gifted with a unique ability to connect with people, he has spent the last 22 years serving in a variety of ministries. His team has traveled extensively across the U.S., ministering in churches, crusades, revivals, prisons, and rehab centers. McDaniel’s passion is to share the liberating message of Jesus Christ and help others find freedom from anything that hinders them from living their best life in Him.
Oak Hill Methodist Church itself boasts a rich history in the Chattooga County area. Initially organized around 1900, the congregation’s early services were held in local homes, including a large kitchen in the home of Mr. and Mrs. William McKinney. Services later moved to a log cabin on McKinney Road and then to the Oak Hill School building. The community’s dedication culminated in the construction of a one-room church building, with materials and labor contributed by local residents. The first service in their dedicated church building was held on Christmas Eve 1906.
The church looks forward to welcoming Chris McDaniel and the entire community to this year’s Homecoming celebration, promising a morning of inspiring worship, fellowship, and a powerful message of hope and redemption.
