The convictions stem from the October 31, 2024, shooting death of Dakota Bottomlee at his home on Johnson Road in Chickamauga. Deputies with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence and discovered Bottomlee deceased from gunshot wounds. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist with the case.
Investigators determined a struggle had taken place inside the home, noting a shattered glass coffee table and multiple shell casings recovered from the scene. Evidence showed at least two firearms were used during the incident, along with a toy gun.
Authorities said the investigation advanced after receiving a tip that McClure had been boasting about her involvement in the shooting. Further interviews, search warrants, and digital evidence uncovered social media messages and videos documenting the planning of an armed robbery, attempts to conceal the crime, and post-crime boasting by the defendants.
A firearm recovered from Chambers’ residence was later confirmed by the GBI Crime Lab to match shell casings found at the scene and projectiles removed during the victim’s autopsy. Although a second firearm was never recovered, investigators found an Airsoft pistol at McClure’s residence, which she admitted to firing during the incident.
Prosecutors emphasized Georgia’s “Party to a Crime” law, which holds all participants legally responsible when a felony results in a death.
On December 19, 2025, all four defendants were sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. The case was prosecuted by Chief Assistant District Attorney Lynsay Chapman and Senior Assistant District Attorney Kevin Baugh.
The Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office credited the Walker County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for their extensive work on the case, noting that a months-long investigation led to the arrests and convictions.
