The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) has released an activity report for the New Year’s holiday travel period, showing hundreds of citations and dozens of serious crashes statewide.

DPS reports four people were killed during the period. The agency also noted the highest activity count was seat belt citations, with 277. DPS said earlier there were more than 1,000 arrests, but later corrected the graphic, saying that number was a typo.

As of 6:00 p.m. Friday, DPS reported 185 DUI arrests, 214 distracted driving citations, and 277 seat belt citations. The report lists a total crash report count of 125, with 3 crash fatalities and 50 reported injuries. DPS also reported 16 crashes involving an impaired driver and 3 crashes involving a commercial motor vehicle.

DPS says the figures represent a combined total from all law enforcement agencies across Georgia and serves as a reminder for drivers heading into the weekend to buckle up, drive sober, slow down, and put distractions away.
