Georgia Senate Majority Leader Jason Anavitarte (R–Dallas) has issued a statement marking the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month, calling on all Georgians to celebrate the rich history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic Americans. The month-long observance, which runs from September 15 to October 15, honors the influence of Hispanic, Latino, and Latinx communities on American society.

In his statement, Senator Anavitarte emphasized his personal connection to the celebration. “Today marks the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the rich history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic Americans across our nation,” Anavitarte said. “Like millions of Hispanic Americans, I am the son of hardworking parents who instilled in me an unwavering faith and a deep belief in the American Dream.”

He highlighted the significant impact of Hispanic communities within the state of Georgia. “Here in Georgia, that same spirit is alive and well in our vibrant Hispanic communities, whose dedication and accomplishments strengthen both our economy and our culture,” he continued. “Their story is woven into the fabric of our state, helping make Georgia the place of opportunity, prosperity, and freedom that we are proud to call home.”

Anavitarte concluded his statement by inviting all residents to participate in the commemoration: “As we begin this month of celebration, I invite all Georgians to join me in honoring the achievements of Hispanic Americans and recognizing their vital role in shaping our shared future.”

Senator Anavitarte holds a distinguished record of public service and is a prominent figure within Georgia’s Hispanic community. In 2003, at a young age, he made history by becoming the youngest Hispanic elected in Georgia through his election to the City Council of Doraville, where he also served as Mayor Pro-Tempore. His public service continued with his election to the Paulding County School Board in 2018.

Recognized as one of the “50 Most Influential Latinos in Georgia,” Senator Anavitarte has also played significant roles in national politics, serving as the 2016 Chairman for Senator Marco Rubio’s Georgia Presidential Campaign and as a delegate for President Trump at his Republican National Convention. In 2020, he was a senior advisor for the National Latinos for Trump coalition. He is an alumnus of the AEI Leadership Network and was named one of GOPAC’s 2022 National Emerging Leaders.
