The Chattooga County Environmental Health Department released its latest round of health inspection scores for food service establishments and tourist accommodations for the first half of February 2025. The results were overwhelmingly positive, with the vast majority of establishments receiving high marks. However, one tourist accommodation, the Sequoyah Motel located at 12384 Hwy 27 in Summerville, received a score of 76 during its routine inspection on February 11, 2025.

The Sequoyah Motel’s low score was attributed to several violations, including a sewage surface discharge behind the facility, live roaches in at least one room, damaged fixtures, a non-functioning ventilation fan, holes in walls, missing or non-functional smoke detectors, unclean appliances, a damaged electrical outlet, and an accumulation of debris on the grounds. Inspector Seth Griffin noted these issues and discussed corrective actions with the Person in Charge (PIC) at the Motel. The motel has been instructed to contact the Health Department to repair the sewage system, engage a licensed pest control company, repair damaged fixtures and outlets, replace the ventilation fan and smoke detectors, thoroughly clean rooms and appliances, and clear debris from the property. Some rooms must remain closed until re-inspection by the Health Department confirms these issues have been addressed.

In contrast, several food service establishments earned impressive scores: Wendy’s in Trion achieved a perfect 100, Little Caesars in Summerville scored a 97, and Zaxby’s in Summerville received a 90.
