Residents of Northwest Georgia are urged to exercise extreme caution on Friday as high fire danger conditions are expected due to dry fuels and very low relative humidity. A Fire Danger Statement has been issued for the region, lasting throughout Friday afternoon and evening. Authorities are reminding residents to consult with their local burn permitting agencies for specific regulations regarding outdoor burning.
The elevated risk is expected to potentially continue through Saturday, Sunday, and Monday due to the persistent low humidity and dry vegetation.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a sunny day for Friday with a high near 65 degrees. While winds will be calm in the morning, they are expected to shift to southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon, with gusts reaching up to 15 mph. These conditions contribute to the increased fire risk. Looking ahead, the weather forecast suggests continued sunshine and relatively dry conditions through the weekend and into early next week. Saturday will be sunny with a high near 65, and Sunday will be sunny with a high near 54.
Relief in the form of showers is possible on Tuesday, with a 20% chance of rain and a high near 67. However, a 90% chance of showers is expected Tuesday night, with a low around 54. Heavy rain is possible on Wednesday, providing much-needed moisture to the region. Residents are encouraged to take preventative measures to avoid accidentally starting fires and to be vigilant in reporting any signs of smoke or fire to local authorities.
