Property owners in Chattooga County with outstanding tax bills face a final deadline this morning, as the county’s tax sale is set to commence today at 10 AM on the courthouse steps. Properties with unresolved debts will be put up for public auction.
Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton released a statement ahead of the sale, confirming that many delinquent accounts have already been settled. “Many property owners have taken care of the tax bills and have paid, made arrangements, or were pulled for other issues,” Hampton stated.
However, for those who have not yet resolved their outstanding tax obligations, their properties will proceed to auction. Commissioner Hampton expressed a final plea to owners to prevent the loss of their property.
“Several of these properties are abandoned,” Hampton said, “but if it’s a property someone did not mean to abandon, we’re hoping they take care of their outstanding taxes before today at 10 am!”
Property owners still wishing to prevent their land or buildings from going up for auction have a final opportunity to make payments. Payments can be made online at www.chattoogacountytax.com, but must be completed before the 10 AM start time of the auction.
The tax sale will proceed as scheduled, offering potential buyers the opportunity to acquire properties with unpaid tax liens.
