Runners and outdoor enthusiasts looking to support James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park have only a few hours left to register for the annual Twisted Ankle Race, with the registration deadline set for today, September 1, 2025. All proceeds from the challenging event directly benefit the Friends of James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park.
The Twisted Ankle Race, scheduled for Saturday, September 13, 2025, promises an exhilarating experience while contributing to the upkeep and enhancement of the beloved park in Summerville, Chattooga County.
Participants will gather at the picturesque James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park, located at 2800 Sloppy Floyd Lake Road, Summerville, GA 30747. All races are set to kick off promptly at 9:00 AM.
Aspiring racers must act quickly, as registration, which opened on May 31, 2025, officially closes at the end of today, September 1, 2025. The event is capped at 200 entrants, so securing a spot is crucial before it’s too late.
To accommodate participants, early packet pick-up is available on Friday, September 12, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at shelter #4, near the park office. For those unable to make it Friday, same-day packet pick-up will be held from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM on Saturday, September 13, at shelter #3, conveniently located at the start/finish line.
The Twisted Ankle Race offers a straightforward competition with no traditional age groups. Instead, awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the male and female Masters (over 40) champions. This ‘flat out race’ format encourages pure speed and endurance on the park’s scenic trails.
Every dollar raised through the Twisted Ankle Race goes directly to the Friends of the Park, enabling vital projects and ensuring the park remains a natural gem for generations to come. Don’t miss this final opportunity to register and make a difference!
