The Chattooga County Board of Education held a special ceremony for the winners of the annual Spelling Bee at the most recent meeting of the board. The Chattooga County Spelling Bee was held last November at Summerville Middle School. Chattooga County School Superintendent Dr. Michelle Helie shared details of the event, which featured 45 students from grades one to eight competing.
Schools involved included Leroy Massey, Lyerly, Menlo, and Summerville Middle School. Dr. Helie praised all participants and recognized the first-place winners, who received certificates, trophies, and medals.
The winners were: Everly Hardin (Grade 1), Gavin Penson (Grade 2), Laurli Dodson (Grade 3), and Andrew Dilback (Grades 4-8), who is a three-time champion and will represent the county at the GAE Region One Spelling Bee on February 22nd.
Region One includes participants from schools across Northwest Georgia, including: Bartow, Bremen City, Calhoun City, Cartersville City, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Fannin, Floyd, Georgia School for the Deaf (Cave Spring), Gilmer, Gordon, Haralson, Murray, Paulding, Pickens, Polk, Rome City, Trion City, Walker, and Whitfield.
