A 46-year-old man, identified as Bhaveshikumar Dhanis Patel, was arrested on November 9th following a dangerous high-speed chase that ended with multiple charges, including DUI and reckless driving.

At approximately 12:14 AM, a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy  initiated the pursuit after observing Patel’s white SUV failing to maintain its lane and exceeding the speed limit at 62 mph in a 45 mph zone. After confirming the speed with radar, the deputy activated his emergency lights as Patel pulled into the Carousel Inn parking lot. However, instead of stopping, Patel accelerated away from the scene, leading officers on a reckless chase that concluded at the Express Inn.

Upon approaching Patel, the deputy noted a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. During the subsequent field sobriety tests, Patel displayed significant signs of impairment, including issues with balance and focus. Notably, he failed multiple aspects of the tests, leading deputies to suspect he was driving under the influence. A portable breath test confirmed their suspicions, revealing a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.199, well above Georgia’s legal limit.

Despite being read his rights, Patel verbally refused to consent to a blood draw. He was charged with DUI-alcohol (misdemeanor), failure to maintain lane, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer for reckless driving, and speeding.

Patel was taken into custody without incident and transported to Chattooga County
