Georgia’s driver’s licenses are getting a new look, and the Department of Driver Services (DDS) says the design will be “more secure.”

The new design prominently features a peach and makes the addition of a smaller duplicate portrait within the peach. The color photos of the previous design are gone, replaced with black and white portraits.

Licenses for people over 21 will remain in their horizontal layout, and for those under 21, the design will be vertical.

DDS has already started issuing the new driver’s licenses and IDs at their Savannah customer service center and will be adding locations until the new design is available statewide.

The cards are made of polycarbonate, which is harder to peel apart, and more difficult to forge. Signatures are laser-engraved, and the background is an engraved intricate pattern called a guilloche.  Other security features will only be visible with ultra-violate light.

The DDS says that there is no need to get a new license until it is time for your renewal.
