The U. S. Food and Drug Administration has announced a recall of nearly 11,000 units of organic eggs due to possible salmonella contamination. This recall was made public on Wednesday by Handsome Brook Farms, which voluntarily recalled their 24-count eggs sold under the Kirkland Signature brand in several states.

The affected eggs were sold at 25 Costco locations in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee starting on November 22. The recalled eggs are packaged in plastic cartons labeled with Kirkland Signature and have the UPC 9661910680. The recall applies only to those with the Julian code 327 and a Use By Date of January 6, 2025. The company noted that these eggs were not meant for retail but were mistakenly packaged for sale. They are implementing new supply chain controls to prevent this from happening again.

Salmonella can cause serious illness, especially in young children, elderly individuals, and those with weak immune systems. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. No illnesses related to this recall have been reported so far. Consumers with the recalled eggs should stop eating them and return them to Costco for a refund or dispose of them.
