The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a dog was shot as deputies were attempting to serve an arrest warrant Thursday evening in the 200 block of Pearson Road.

According to a news release:

When the resident of the home opened the door, a pit bull aggressively lunged at one of the deputies, biting him on the upper leg.

The dog briefly released the deputy’s leg but then attempted to lunge again, at which point the dog was shot and killed.

The injured deputy received medical treatment at a local hospital and was later released.
