If you have received a mailer claiming that you can get up to $35,000 for funeral expenses, Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader is urging you to throw the mailer in the trash and not respond.

The sheriff said earlier this week that the mailer is “obviously a scam”.  The mailer appears to be an official State of Georgia government form, but the “T-2” form is not part of the state’s database and appears to be made-up to dupe unsuspecting residents.  The mailer does include a small disclaimer that says, “not affiliated with any state or government agency.”

According to the Better Business Bureau, “Direct Mail Processing LLC” – the company that mailed out the form, has received numerous complaints.

Direct Mail Processing LLC (DMP) maintains that they are a third-party and simply contract with businesses to mail and process solicitations.  The Kennesaw based company posted the following in response to BBB complaints:

“DMP is a company that provides mail services to commercial entities that market products and services to the public. DMP acts as the intermediary between marketing companies and mail houses that send and receive consumer mailers. We do not sell or endorse the products or services referenced in the mailers.”

Sheriff Schrader is telling Chattooga County residents to disregard the mailer and not to respond.  Scammers often use forms like this to get personal information from people and then use that information to perpetrate fraud.
