According to a report from the Summerville Police Department, released on Friday of last week, Edward Starr, a Summerville resident, was arrested on February 22nd, 2025, after police observed him driving erratically.

According to a police report, Summerville City Units received a 911 call at 9:31 PM regarding a possible drunk driver in a white Cadillac CTS with Georgia license plate TEA6631. The caller reported that the vehicle had struck a mailbox and nearly hit their own car. An officer in the area located the vehicle, observing it traveling northbound on Highway 48 before making a series of turns, culminating in the car stopping in the middle of the intersection of Commerce Street and Georgia Avenue, blocking traffic. The officer noted that the vehicle didn’t attempt to stop at the line, despite a green light. After observing the vehicle cross over the double yellow line, the officer initiated a traffic stop at 154 Union Street. Upon approaching the driver, identified as Edward Starr, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol and observed signs of impairment, including a flushed face, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and mumbling. Starr admitted to consuming two Bud Light beers earlier in the evening.

A search of Starr’s person, conducted with his consent, revealed a bag of suspected marijuana. Starr refused to perform a roadside alco-sensor test and was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages. He was transported to the Chattooga County Jail after refusing a blood draw. The suspected marijuana was seized as evidence.
