A Summerville man was arrested on charges of public intoxication and disturbing the peace early on Friday of last week after police responded to a domestic disturbance call on Sidney Street.

Justin Eli Durham, 20, was taken into custody after officers found him behaving loudly and boisterously in a residential driveway, disturbing the peace of the neighborhood.

According to a report from the Summerville Police Department, officers were dispatched to 15 Sidney Street in reference to a domestic problem. Upon arrival, an officer observed Durham in the driveway, speaking on the phone in a loud and boisterous manner.

During a conversation with Durham, the officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath and person. Durham reportedly admitted to being intoxicated while in a public street. Due to his conduct and admitted intoxication, the officer determined Durham was at risk to himself and others.

He was subsequently placed under arrest.

The complainant, whose name was not released in the police report, told officers that Durham was upset and had expressed a desire to fight with someone. She stated that Durham had been drinking at his residence before walking to 15 Sidney Street while already intoxicated. The complainant clarified that the incident involved only a verbal argument and no physical contact had occurred.

Durham was transported to the Chattooga County Jail without incident. He faces charges related to his conduct and intoxication.
