Summerville Police are investigating the theft of an Amazon package containing diapers from a local residence, marking another instance of “porch piracy” reported in the area. The incident, which occurred sometime between late Thursday night and Friday morning, was reported to authorities on Friday afternoon.

According to a report released this week by the Summerville Police Department, police were dispatched to 22 Peppermint Place at approximately 1:47 PM on Friday, July 11th, in response to a theft complaint. The complainant, Jacob Gosnell, informed Officer Smith that an Amazon delivery containing diapers had been delivered to his home around 11:00 PM on Thursday, July 10th.

Gosnell stated that upon returning home from work on Friday, he discovered the package was no longer on his property. A neighbor reported that she had seen the package on his porch as late as 8:30 AM on Friday when she left for work.

The theft of delivered packages, often referred to as “porch piracy,” remains a persistent issue in communities, particularly with the increase in online shopping. Police remind residents to take precautions to prevent such thefts, including tracking deliveries, utilizing video doorbells or requesting a signature for all deliveries.
