The City of Summerville, Georgia, has announced an immediate opening for a Gas Maintenance Worker, a pivotal role designed to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of natural gas to residents and businesses throughout the community.

According to the official job description, the Gas Maintenance Worker will be instrumental in assisting with the installation, repair, and maintenance of gas lines and system components. Key responsibilities include critical tasks such as locating and repairing leaks, identifying signs of atmospheric corrosion, and responding promptly to emergency repair calls, including those occurring after standard business hours.

The role also involves operating city vehicles like trucks and flatbed trailers to transport equipment, conducting thorough gas inspections, installing and maintaining gas pipelines and meters, and accurately locating and marking underground utilities. Additional duties include conducting pressure tests, maintaining an inventory of tools and supplies, painting meters and farm taps, and performing routine service on valves. The position also involves some general maintenance tasks, such as mowing.

The position requires a physically capable individual, as duties often involve working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including cold or inclement weather. The work environment may expose employees to dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Candidates must be able to intermittently sit, stand, stoop, walk, and bend, frequently lift light objects, and occasionally lift heavy objects. Minimum qualifications for the Gas Maintenance Worker position include a High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
