Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton says almost eighteen hundred late tax notices are in the mail.
Hampton said on Friday, “1783 late notices/intent to fi fa letters are going into the mail today and in the coming days. The letter gives notice that the bill which was due on December 1, 2021 is still unpaid. This letter is required by law, and gives the taxpayer notice that they have 30 days to pay their bill before a tax lien is placed on the property. ”
Hampton added, “I usually give taxpayers a couple of extra months in case they are waiting on tax returns, but I wanted to send the reminders out in time for taxpayers to avoid the biggest late penalty, which is applied at the end of March. “
Payments can be mailed, paid in person or online at www.chattoogatax.com.
