Summerville Police responded to a theft incident at the Amoco gas station and convenience store on Commerce Street on Thursday evening, September 25, 2025. A male suspect, later identified as Dustin Weaver, was located by officers but ultimately not charged after the store clerk declined to press criminal charges.
According to a police report filed by Officer Pledger, who was dispatched to the scene at approximately 8:40 p.m., the store clerk reported that a male subject had entered the store, selected several items, and then left without making payment.
Upon arrival, Officer Pledger interviewed the clerk, who described a male subject entering the store, browsing multiple aisles, and then exiting without paying. The clerk observed the individual heading north on Commerce Street after the incident.
Further investigation included a review of the store’s surveillance footage, which corroborated the clerk’s account. The video showed the male suspect browsing shelves, selecting an item from an end cap display, retrieving a drink from a refrigerator’s bottom shelf, and finally grabbing a bottle of alcohol near the front entrance before exiting the premises without payment. The clerk requested that, if located, the subject be informed he was permanently barred from the Amoco property.
Based on the surveillance footage, a suspect description was generated: a white male with a buzzcut haircut, wearing a burgundy shirt, black pants, and black shoes with white stripes.
The stolen items were identified as two chocolate chip muffins (unknown brand) valued at $2.79 each ($5.58 total), one Jumex Strawberry and Banana Nectar valued at $3.49, and one Madd Dogg 20/20 Spiked Alcoholic Beverage valued at $6.99. The total value of the stolen items amounted to $16.06.
The situation took a turn approximately 52 minutes after the initial dispatch. At around 9:32 p.m., Officer Pledger observed a male matching the theft suspect’s description walking on Commerce Street. Before Officer Pledger could exit the patrol vehicle, the male fled south on the sidewalk. During his brief flight, the individual was observed dropping an item, which Officer Pledger later recovered and identified as the stolen Madd Dogg 20/20 Spiked Alcoholic Beverage.
Officer Pledger broadcast the pursuit over the radio, and assisting Officer Sainthill quickly located and detained the suspect a short distance away.
The detained individual was identified as Dustin Weaver. Officer Pledger informed Mr. Weaver that he was officially barred from the Amoco gas station/convenience store premises and advised that any return to the property would result in an arrest for criminal trespass. Despite the circumstances and the recovery of one of the stolen items, the store clerk ultimately decided not to press criminal charges against Mr. Weaver, and he was subsequently released.
The recovered Madd Dogg 20/20 Spiked Alcoholic Beverage was returned to the Amoco clerk by Officer Pledger.
