A Floyd County man, Robert Keith Tincher III, was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Wednesday for the murder of his grandmother, Doris Cummings. During the virtual sentencing hearing from Floyd County Jail, Tincher showed no emotion or remorse. He had pleaded guilty to killing Cummings and putting her alive into a freezer.
Judge William “Billy” Sparks described Tincher as sociopathic and determined that he should never be allowed to walk free again. Cummings’ family shared their grief, highlighting how much she loved Tincher from the moment he was born. Her niece, Tonie Chittom, requested in court that Tincher receive a life sentence without parole. She spoke about the impact of Cummings’ death on her family, particularly her father, who was profoundly affected by the loss.
The courtroom contained a stark symbol of the crime: the freezer where Cummings was found. Tincher told authorities that he believed she was brain dead after falling in the shower, leading him to dispose of her body. Prosecutors noted that Tincher had shown no remorse and believed he had done nothing wrong. Judge Sparks emphasized the heinous nature of the crime and the sorrow of the family present.
