A routine traffic stop in Summerville on Wednesday, July 10, quickly escalated into a drug bust after law enforcement officers discovered suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, leading to the arrest of a Summerville man.
The incident began when the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office contacted Summerville Police, requesting assistance for the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) who were conducting a traffic stop at the turntable area of Dowdy Park.
GSP Trooper Keith Flowers had pulled over a white 2006 GMC Savana Cutaway van. According to the report, the vehicle was observed to not display a rear license plate, though it had a Georgia temporary tag (C1164801) that Trooper Flowers described as canceled and expired as of May 24, 2025. The driver, identified as Lloyd Edward Cook, was also reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and did not possess a driver’s license on his person.
As Trooper Flowers spoke with Cook, a used hypodermic needle and a broken glass methamphetamine pipe reportedly fell from a black zippered soft case onto the ground in front of the GSP patrol unit.
Upon further inspection, the soft case allegedly contained additional clear plastic baggies, more needles, a substantial quantity of a white crystalline substance consistent with methamphetamine, and a set of red AWS digital scales with suspected methamphetamine residue.
A Summerville Police officer, who knew Cook personally, observed him in the rear of Trooper Flowers’ patrol vehicle. The white crystalline substance was later field-tested by Summerville Police, yielding a positive result for methamphetamine. The suspected drug, including its plastic baggie, weighed 11.1 grams.
All evidence was sealed by Summerville Police and placed into the department’s evidence locker. The broken meth pipe and used hypodermic needles were safely disposed of in a sharps container.
Cook is facing charges related to possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, expired/canceled tag, seatbelt violation, and driving without a license on person.
