The Town of Trion is preparing for a significant community event, the official dedication of the new Trion Hurley Memorial Park, scheduled for Saturday, October 4th. This dedication ceremony honors the Hurley family’s longtime commitment to the community and recognizes their generous donation of the land upon which the park was built.
The new park is viewed not only as an added amenity, but also as a beautiful new gateway and entrance to the town.
Mayor Lanny Thomas announced the details of the dedication and shared the story behind the park’s creation, which began nearly five years ago when the Hurley family decided to sell the property.
“It was about five years ago that I spoke with the Hurley family concerning the land. They had placed a ‘for sale’ sign on the property,” Mayor Thomas recalled. “I asked Barry Hurley if he could give Trion first bid opportunity to purchase the property. He later returned my call after speaking to his brother and sister. He stated they would like to donate the property if Trion promised to turn it into a park.”
The Town of Trion readily accepted the condition, ensuring the land would remain a community asset, forever linked to the family’s name and legacy of local businesses.
“The Town of Trion is grateful to the Hurley family for the opportunity to have the property and build a very nice park and entrance to the town,” Mayor Thomas added.
The dedication ceremony is open to the public and is set to feature remarks from town officials and members of the Hurley family.
