A Trion woman lost her life Sunday night in a tragic motorcycle accident on Highway 27 at Taylor’s Ridge. Fifty-year-old Sarah Ryan was pronounced dead at the scene following a multi-vehicle collision that resulted in a fiery blaze.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. as Ryan was traveling on Highway 27. Investigators report that Ryan’s motorcycle crossed the center line, entering the path of an oncoming Mercedes-Benz. Following the initial impact, her motorcycle then slid underneath a Jeep Gladiator that was also traveling in the opposite direction.
Both the motorcycle and the Jeep Gladiator subsequently caught fire. The Georgia State Patrol and Atrium Health Floyd EMS were reportedly in the vicinity at the time of the crash and were able to quickly respond. Emergency personnel used fire extinguishers to combat the blaze before the arrival of additional units. The Summerville Fire Department also arrived on the scene and assisted law enforcement and EMTs in managing the incident.
Chattooga County Coroner Jeremy “Big Mac” McElhaney pronounced Ryan dead at the scene. Her family was notified of the tragedy, and her identity was publicly released on Monday morning.
The Georgia State Patrol is continuing its investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident.
