The Cherokee County, Alabama Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the arrest of two Cedartown, Georgia, men following an investigation into an incident near Indian Mountain ATV Park. Donald Robert Hubbard, 66, and Louie Dan Sherman, 52, are facing charges after allegedly trespassing, damaging property, and violating firearm possession laws.
According to a statement released by Sheriff Jeff Shaver, the investigation began after deputies received a report regarding a game camera that captured footage of a man trespassing on private property and exposing himself to the device. The man, later identified as Hubbard, along with Sherman, then allegedly attempted to destroy the camera. Authorities say the pair experienced multiple firearm malfunctions during their attempt to disable the camera. They eventually succeeded in destroying the camera with a single shot. Fortunately for investigators, the original recordings were recovered despite the suspects’ efforts. Hubbard and Sherman were subsequently identified as convicted felons, making them prohibited from possessing firearms under Alabama law. Warrants were issued for their arrest, and both men were taken into custody by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia before being extradited to Cherokee County.
Sheriff Shaver expressed his gratitude to the Cedartown Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in apprehending the suspects. Hubbard has been charged with certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm, criminal mischief in the third degree, and public lewdness. Sherman faces charges of certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm and criminal mischief in the third degree.
