Two people were killed in a head-on collision on New Year’s Day in Cherokee County, Alabama.
Authorities say 26-year-old Jasmine D. Agan of Cedar Bluff was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse when it collided with a 2003 Ford Explorer driven by a 16-year-old juvenile, also from Cedar Bluff. Jasmine Agan was fatally injured in the crash, and a passenger in the Chevrolet, 25-year-old Thomas D. Agan of Temple, Georgia, was also killed.
Officials reported that neither Jasmine nor Thomas Agan was wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck. The 16-year-old driver of the Explorer was injured and taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to UAB for further treatment.
The crash happened around 5:43 p.m. on New Year’s Day on Alabama Highway 9 near the 263-mile marker, about two miles north of Centre. The investigation remains ongoing.
