Local veterans advocates Odell Anderson and Barbara Massey Reece are extending an invitation to all veterans who served in the U.S. military during the Vietnam era (November 1, 1955 to April 30, 1975) to a special luncheon on Friday, March 28, 2025. The luncheon will take place at 12 noon at the Chattooga County Memorial Home, located at 818 Memorial Drive in Summerville. Organizers encourage all Vietnam veterans to attend and bring their families for a time of food, fellowship, and remembrance. The event precedes National Vietnam War Veterans Day, observed on Saturday, March 29th. This national holiday commemorates the day the last combat troops departed Vietnam on March 29, 1973. It serves as a day to honor the nine million Americans who served during the Vietnam War, whether in-country or at supporting posts around the world. It’s also a day to express gratitude to the families who provided unwavering support and endured significant sacrifices. The Friday luncheon is generously sponsored by VFW Post 6688, its auxiliary, and dedicated local volunteers. For more information about the luncheon, please contact Odell Anderson at 706-397-2394 or Barbara Reece at 706-862-2657.
