Thursday, Sears Holdings Company has announced it’s closing 40 more locations, including Sears at Northgate Mall in Chattanooga.

A release from the company says, “As part of Sears Holdings’ processes to accelerate its strategic transformation and facilitate its financial restructuring, on November 8 the company informed associates at 40 stores that we will be closing Sears and Kmart stores in February 2019.”  The list did not include any additional stores in Georgia.

The once-great retail giant has shuttered stores all across the nation, and now the closest Sears-owned store to Chattooga County will be in the Atlanta-Metro area. The Sears Store in Rome has been closed for some time, and it was announced that the Sears store at Hamilton Place would be closing earlier this year.  Sears is also closing their store in Gadsden, Alabama.

The closings do not affect independently owned Sears Hometown Stores like the one in Calhoun and Fort Payne, Alabama.
