Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton is reminding residents that about 1,900 parcels remain unpaid for 2025 property taxes that were due December 10, 2025. Hampton says delinquent letters will be mailed out this week and encourages anyone who may have missed a bill to make payment soon to avoid added costs.
Hampton noted that while no one enjoys paying taxes, the Tax Commissioner’s Office is responsible for collecting and disbursing those payments and wants residents to know what to expect. She urged taxpayers to pay by March 27, 2026 to avoid larger penalties. Hampton also said payment plans are available, but interest and penalties will still apply; however, staying current on an approved plan can help avoid additional tax sale-related fees and notices.
Residents can verify balances and pay online at www.chattoogacountytax.com. Hampton also reminded vehicle owners that if they remove insurance and stop driving a vehicle, they must cancel their tag in writing—either in person or online—to avoid insurance-related fines.
