Hendrix Obit

Mr. Frank Lee Hedrix age 93 of Espy Street in Summerville passed away on Thursday morning at his residence.  He was a native of Chattooga County, born to the late Walter Dewitt and Stella Hix Hendrix on August 29, 1914.  He was the oldest memebr of Trion United Methodist Church and was "Front Man" for Jackson Drug Company for 47 years prior to retirement.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years the late Ida Madeline Fulton Hendrix and brothers the late Elmer Hendrix, Robert L. Hendrix and Rev. Charles Hendrix.

Surviving are his sister Annie Hendrix McCary of Summerville; sisters in law mary Ann Hendrix of Trion and Ella Mae Hendrix of Clover, S.C.  Several neices and nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral Services will be held this Sunday at 3 PM from the Trion United Methodist Church with Rev. Art Graves and Rev. Rob Pierce officiating.  Eulogy will be by Mr. James Jackson III.  Intement in the Summerville Cemetery with active pallbearers being:  Johnny Brimmer, Ted Clark, Randy Brinkley, James Snow, Wallace Howell and Sam Jones.  Honorary pallbearers – Mrs. J.B. Woodeard, Mrs. Ressie Howell and the Christian Fellowship Class of the Trion U.M.C.  along with all employees and former employees of Jackson Drug Company.  Visitation will be Saturday from 6 until 8 PM at the Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests that contributions be made to the Trion U.M.C. building fund.

Miss Starlight Pagent Tonight

The Summerville Recreation Cheerleader Coaches are presenting the Miss Starlight Pageant this evening at 7 PM at the Dandee Denson Shrine Auditorium in Sumerville.  Age ranges for the contestants will be girls ages 4 months to 16 years.  All proceeds from the event will be going to the 2008 Summerville Recreation Cheerleaders.

 

Georgia Council For the Blind Fund Raiser

The Georgia Council for the Blind willbe holding a comedy-variety show fundraiser performed by the Bold & Beautiful Red Hatters next Saturday August 30th in Rome at 7 PM.  The event is to be held at the Senior Recreation Center located at 1325 Kingston Road in Rome.  For more information call Marsha Farror at 706-859-2626.  Admission is $10 per person with the proceeds going to the blind and visually impaired.

 

Trion Town Council to Meet

Mayor Benny Perry of Trion has announced the regular monthly meeting and work session for the Trion Town Council.  The Councilmembers will be meeting next Tuesday at 6 PM in the Trion Town Hall Conference Room for their monthly work session and the regular monthly meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 28th at 6 PM.

 

Parent Leadership Kickoff Today

The Chattooga County Parent Leadership Coalition is holding a community membership kick off today  at 10 AM at the Summerville Elemetary School.  State wide director of the PLC, Marchia Williams will speak concerning the Navigation Team Project and how the PLC is working to establish a point of contact in every Georgia county so that no parent of a child with a disability ever feels alone.  Area resource providers will be present with information and some will also give items away.  Refreshments will be servied for more informaiton call Melissa Cummings at 706-857-3527.

Quidar Murder Trial Over

The murder trial of Hays State Prison inmate Sirah Juddin Quidar ended in Chattooga County Superior Court yesterday with the jury of 10 men and 2 women find Quidar not guilty.  Quidar had been charged with the beating death of fellow inmate Willie Morgan after an altercation that occurred regarding a Muslim Prayer service at Hays State Prison.  Two of the prosecution wittnesses were assaulted earlier this week at Hays Prison.  Reports from the trial indicate that those wittnesses were not very forthcoming with their testimony during the trial.  Quidar is serving a 20 year sentence at Hays Prison for a 1997 Armed Robbery in DeKalb County, Georgia.

 

Man Crashes into Mexican Restaurant in Lafayette

A man who suffered a seizure crashed into a restaurant in LaFayette late Friday afternoon. According to LaFayette police: The man, whose name was not immediately available, was pulling into the parking lot at Don Lolo’s Mexican restaurant when he suffered the seizure. The man, who was driving a 2000 Chevy Malibu, first crashed into a Mazda pickup truck, then into the building near the entrance. The accident occurred about 4:45 p.m. He was taken to Hutcheson Medical Center.

Plans For Trion Fall Festival

Trion residents are being encouraged to attend a meeting on Monday about the annual Fall Festival.  Decision makers are asking for input from the community regarding the Fall Festival and would like to include as many people as possible.  Organizers are asking that Trion residents of all ages come to the meeting which is to be held Monday evening at the Trion Town Hall conference room at 6 PM.  Organizers say that time is growing short and they desparately need volunteers for the Fall Festival.
